About the UCT GIS Lab

The UCT GIS Lab is a consulting service for Staff and Post-graduate researchers who wish to make use of spatial data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

We assist with GIS: Project Planning, Troubleshooting, Analysis and Cartographic Design.

We manage UCT's ESRI site license which provides access to ESRI's industry standard ArcGIS Desktop software and online training facility.

We also make use of FOSS software, such as Quantum GIS, however we can be consulted on the planning and analysis component of any GIS project regardless of software.

We have a mini PC Lab for onsite troubleshooting and processing with access to our own spatial data library.

We facilitate user skill development in order for them to perform their own data capture, geospatial analysis and map production. The UCT GIS Lab is not a cartographic or data capture service.

We can also be consulted by academics wishing to integrate GIS into their course curriculum.
